My students need a charging station to easily charge our classroom iPads in one location, headphone splitters for listening to reading, and keyboards for easy typing on the iPads.
Even though our school is comparatively small, we have a big mission: First, we provide an academic environment in which each student can thrive and succeed, regardless of the individual’s learning style and academic strengths or weaknesses, thereby enabling each student to have the opportunity to reach his or her full potential. Second, we provide an inclusion model for autistic children that allows a gradual transition from the ESE classroom to a regular education classroom, thus offering the same opportunity for them to reach their full potential. Our school is committed to helping each student grow academically, socially, physically, and emotionally, and using a variety of innovations to accomplish our objectives.
My students are energetic, enthusiastic learners.
They love technology, hands on activities, book clubs, and read aloud books. This class is full of learners on many different levels with individual needs. The “Multi-Tiered System of Support” approach is used school-wide for students who score below a 75% on an assessment. In order to remediate gaps in the students’ learning, various types of interventions are utilized, including small groups, collaborative learning, and frequent review.
My Project
Our classroom iPads have gotten lots of use this year, but unfortunately several of our iPad chargers are not reliable and have not charged our iPads overnight. Also, I’ve been plugging the iPads in all around the classroom to get them charged. This charging station would make charging more reliable, simple, and consolidated. Additionally, my students would benefit from a few keyboards, so they are able to type with ease on programs ,like KidBiz, that require extended writing responses.
Keeping our iPads charged, and increasing their functionality with keyboards and headphone splitters will help to increase easy usability for learning programs.
The headphone splitters will be used during daily 5 time, so multiple students can listen to reading on one iPad. With 4 headphone splitters 20 Students can listen to reading on 4 iPads at the same time! The items in this project will impact student learning by helping to keep our iPads charged and functional for use in many different learning programs. My students have already made great gains in learning programs this year and I look forward to seeing them continue to grow with use of these technology supports!
