Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a middle school teacher in a Title I charter school, I have the privilege of teaching students from various cultural and economic backgrounds. Our school is rich in diversity. Most of our students speak a second language at home, including Spanish, Vietnamese, Arabic, Amharic, and Turkish. Many of my diverse group of students also come from low-income families. Along with their varied backgrounds, my students also have various learning abilities. Many of my students perform below grade level and are considered "at-risk." In addition, some of these same students are faced with learning disabilities such as dysgraphia, dyslexia, and ADHD.

Although my students come from different backgrounds and abilities, they all share a love of reading and learning.

For many of my students, the transition to 6th grade can be difficult. Students are introduced to higher-level texts and often struggle with reading comprehension and critical thinking. Because of this, many students become discouraged and no longer find reading enjoyable. With your help, my goal is to provide my students with the tools and skills necessary to become avid readers and writers.

My Project

Because of the ongoing global pandemic, my classroom is in need of cleaning supplies to keep my students healthy while they are attending school in person. For this project, I am requesting Lysol spray and Clorox wipes to disinfect our desks and supplies, Purell hand sanitizer and wipes to keep our hands clean, and replacement filters for our classroom air purifier.

With these cleaning supplies, I hope to mitigate the spread of germs and viruses in our classroom.
