Have you ever tread on unfamiliar territory? My students will be embarking on several new adventures this school year. Our school district has new a Science Techbook curriculum, Math curriculum, and Reading program. The addition of these iTouch tools will enhance their learning experiences.
My students are 5th graders in a high-poverty, high-risk, rural school.
Students in today's classrooms have to gear down when coming to school because there are very limited funds for the school district to obtain new technology. Here in Indiana we are experiencing an increase in classroom size and a decrease in funds to hire aides to assist the students in their studies. Students shouldn't have to suffer because of financial issues within the state. With the addition of these tools, I believe that students will be able to help themselves and will want to utilize this technology.
My Project
These resources will impact the students and how they learn in profound ways. I see a literacy center with students working in pairs to check one another's fluency by recording each other. I see students reading a book that was downloaded onto the iTouch. During math, I see students practicing their math facts which is the foundation. During science and social studies, I imagine students becoming investigators of whatever subject we are covering in the classroom. My students will be thrilled to do seemingly mundane tasks with these pieces of technology. My classroom will be 'abuzz' with excitement by utilizing this technology in the centers.
With the funding of this project not only will you be able to impact the 27 to 30 students in my classroom this year, but also the students that come into my classroom in the future.
This technology has the potential to impact many students that may never get the chance to work with it again. Imagine the students' faces as we begin to engage with the iTouch technology through all avenues of this adventurous school year!
