Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We write to you as a team of three fourth grade teachers who have the privilege of working with eighty students at a Title I school in Compton Unified School District. One hundred percent of our students receive free or reduced lunch.
The teachers and students at our school are often the recipients of various forms of outreach from organizations like DonorsChoose, but we want our students to know that they, too, are powerful agents who play a major role in making our world a better place. Our school's mission statement is as follows: to build a community of productive lifelong learners who critically think of ways to create a humane and just society through excellence in thought and action, both personally and globally.
The materials in this proposal -markers, pencils, pencil sharpeners, notebooks, and crayons - will provide "Classroom Care Packages" for sixty children whose lives have been turned upside down by Hurricane Katrina. Our eighty students will write cards and send pictures to accompany the supplies.
