Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are some of the kindest, sweetest, hardest working, and most eager learners you will ever meet. Currently, I am serving 3rd through 5th graders at the school with the highest poverty rates and transient population in the district. I am the Resource Room teacher; however, I also co-teach in the general education classroom because our school practices full inclusion of ALL students.
Let me give you a little background information on my program.
This will be my third year teaching at this school which is a Title I school. This will also be my third year teaching. Yes, I was a first year teacher who also established a new special education classroom.
My first two years were spent teaching an alternative program called the Learning Center. It was a self-contained classroom for students in grades K-5. This year, our school moved to a full inclusion model, and I now am teaching 3rd-5th graders.
Our students are creative, thoughtful, inquisitive and love to learn. However, to maximize their learning, engage them, and meet their needs where they are, they need more than I can provide with my classroom budget and my own money.
My Project
Like most schools, we use technology like Chromebooks, iPads, and other devices for learning, testing, and fun. It is important students have good quality headphones as to not distract other students and be able to hear directions. Many students struggle with reading and have an accommodations on their IEP that require good quality headphones in order to hear test directions and test questions read aloud. Your generous donation will make this possible by providing us with 10 pairs of headphones.
Our school has a very high number of students who are homeless or living in poverty, and asking families to provide headphones places an undue hardship on their already tight budgets.
We will be so grateful for any and all help you are willing to give.
