Mrs. Taylor from Hyattsville MD is requesting instructional technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need the Cricut machine to create and design projects in Math and Science and the headphones to help them enhance their listening skills.

96% of my students are English Language Learners who are eager to learn, understand and grasp the concepts of a new language in an academic world. These students attend a Title I school where 97% of the population qualifies for free breakfast and reduced price meals.
Technology is the tool that keeps them engaged and constantly ignite their love of learning !
They are always racing to the computers in the classroom and enjoy working on Math programs during their free time.
I am requesting wireless headphones for my class that will be used everyday in our listening center. Our class received chromebooks last year and the headphones are needed for our mobile listening center. The use of the headphones will help my Spanish Language Learners access the content that is being taught in their native language. Many of my students struggle with understanding the Math, Science and Social Studies vocabulary.
Since our curriculum is accessible online and in Spanish, they will be able to follow along while I teach the lesson in English as well as listen to additional resources the lesson provide to help them access the content.
The advantage of having the headphones will allow the students the quiet time they need to comprehend and process their learning. Listening skills are vital for my students, when they understand the task in their native language, it gives them the self confidence to collaborate with their peers.
I also want my students to express their learning in different ways. We created online books on our study of being a good citizen. My students were excited to create the books; however, they were unable to print them because the program charged a fee. The Cricut machine will allow my students to incorporate the designs they created for their books using the online program to transform their books to a published piece. It will improve their 21st century skills of thinking, creating and being innovative in their learning. They will also be able to use the machine to create their personalized vocabulary books and Math flash cards. Their design possibilities are endless and the Cricut machine will give them the freedom to explore those possibilities.
