Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
PHS is a Title I public school comprised of 98% low income/high poverty Hispanic students who face multiple challenges daily in order to succeed. English as a second language is also a roadblock many of these students face. Regardless of their socioeconomic or language barrier, my students are eager to learn and compete at the highest level possible and deserve the same "perks" more privileged students receive. My goal is to give my students every advantage possible in the classroom and on the field of play in order to experience success.
My Project
Budget money for high school sports teams are shrinking annually. The items I am requesting for the basketball program will go a long way to allowing us to spend limited budget money on other items such as uniforms and shoes. By providing these kids socks and towels that we as a staff can control and clean, we are ensuring that the kids are preventing the spread of staph infection which is common in HS sports when students don’t wash items properly. Hygiene is an important factor when dealing with teenage boys. Having the ability to control the usage and cleanliness of these items goes a long way to preventing disease.
