The Earth is getting warmer everyday. We are seeing those environmental changes around us over and over. It is important that my students learn more about Global Warming; why it's happening and the ways we can help combat it. Renewable energy is one of those ways.
Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) careers are the wave of the future.
However, fewer and fewer people come out of college prepared to fill them. My students are a long ways off from college, but that spark of interest is ignited every day in my classroom. Our school is in an urban area located in Massachusetts, with a very diverse population. Being an urban, high poverty school, budgets have been hit particularly hard. Despite all of this, my students are motivated to learn, and strive to be successful. Each week they look forward to coming to my class because they are challenged to use their STEM know-how to solve problems in a creative way.
My Project
Help my students get "Smarter, Together" with their new knowledge about Global Warming and Renewable Energy. With your help, the sets of K’nex Education Renewable Energy will be enable my students to engineer a prototype that uses renewable resources. By harnessing the wind, water, or sun, my students will be able to finish out this science unit by applying that information in an engineering challenge.
Can you imagine being in third grade and designing a solar powered robot that can walk across the floor?
Would that be something you would forget? Students learn so much more by applying the concepts they learn in school. Help my students apply their knowledge of Global Warming and Renewable Energy to an engineering challenge.
