Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students in my classroom are eager to learn, passionate, and hard-working. They are an extension of my family. They inspire me every single day. I want to encourage them to try their best, learn from their mistakes and start to see their full potential.
My students love reading.
One of the ways I get them excited about reading is to read a novel together as a class.
The Book "The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind" is a fantastic opportunity to learn about the spirit, curiosity, resilience, and imagination of a young boy who sets out to save his village!
My Project
My students are avid readers; they love reading stories about young entrepreneurs whose curiosity and resilience helped to shape our world. They specifically have been interested in this book ever since we had our first book tasting several weeks ago.
The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind can help teach my students to "harness" their creativity, imaginations, and to persevere through the most challenging of times.
Not only will my students get to read an inspiring story, but they will also get a glimpse into a world they might not be familiar with. The cultural diversity of this book can help open my students' eyes to the challenges that many people around the world face every day. A novel that peaks their interest is the best tool to use to help teach them many important reading strategies such as author's perspective, theme, and comparing and contrasting characters, settings, and events.
I plan to use the book to help students identify and pull out themes about life, about the human spirit, and about the passion that can be ignited in all of us.
