Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school has two special education preschool classrooms, a primary learning center, three self-contained life skills classrooms, as well as a general education population of students who receive special ed services. Over 90% of the student population in my school district come from a lower socioeconomic background.
My students have varying abilities and needs in the areas of receptive and expressive communication, language and speech production.
They receive small group therapy and/ or whole class lessons within our speech therapy room or their classroom. Students with higher needs may receive individual therapy.
My students are hard working and want to learn! They love coming to "Speech," where they can practice their skills in a supportive and safe environment.
My Project
My students will benefit from the use of fun and engaging materials to build their language and speech production skills, while they keep their hands busy! Having tactile resources will help to reinforce what they are learning.
The Activity Beanbags can be used to attach learning targets and keep students moving while they learn.
The puzzles, including Shapes, Colors, Transportation, and Fruit, will be adapted to use with Aided Language Stimulation, with students are minimally verbal and students who are English Language Learners. The Mystery Box will be used to target various vocabulary and language building skills such as describing and naming attributes. The Alphabet Sounds Teaching Tubs can be used for vocabulary identification and labeling as well as articulation practice.
