Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are very motivated young urban farmers. Our project started last year with 2 hydroponics labs that yielded plenty of nourishing vegetables to our school community. Many students came to visit our hydroponics gardens to learn about sustainability, healthy food growth, and to eat the vegetable that were grown in the classroom. Now our mission has expanded beyond the walls of our classroom. Our students want to create several green outdoor spaces were they can grow food for our community.
All of our students live in an Urban area that does not have a lot of healthy food options.
Our students want to grow enough food that can be shared at the school and community level. The goal is to send our students home with healthy food and share with our local food bank.
