This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students attend a Title I School, and almost seventy percent receive free or reduced price lunch and breakfast. They attend a magnet school which requires most students to maintain a B average throughout the year. The students are part of Pre-Med, Engineering, Environmental Science, or Computer Technology programs.
Our students come from the diverse backgrounds of thirty different countries.
This makes our school pretty special in so many ways. The students all work so hard and are very deserving of this project.
My Project
I want my students to really see where food comes from. So many think that food comes prepackaged. We will grow our own fruits and vegetables like strawberries, blackberries, tomatoes and cucumbers, and flowers from the seeds. We will start them in our Aero Garden in our class and then transfer them once they are big enough.
I want my students to see that growing their own food is good for the environment and their bodies with a school garden and seeds.
I want to grow food at school and then also provide plants for them to take home to grow. I think they will take pride in their hard work and appreciate the food more.
