Have you noticed that our children don’t spend as much time outside? This past May my 5th graders built an amazing garden at our school but the new group of 5th graders need supplies to sustain it through the year! We also need laptops to research plants that grow in our area, as well as, for learning about ways to make a profit from selling our produce.
Help my 5th graders learn by growing and doing!
I have students from middle to low socioeconomic status. They are a mix of Hispanic, Caucasian, Asian, and African American students. All of these racial groups, regardless of language and background, are very eager to learn. They love that they are getting an opportunity to be outside and get their hands “dirty”. They get to experience the gardening, economics and making a positive impact for our school community.
My Project
My 5th graders will be growing plants and produce for our entire elementary school. They will have the opportunity to incorporate economics since they can sell the produce go out cafeteria to use for school lunches. They will be learning different science concepts throughout the growing process. How awesome and rewarding would it be for the students to see their hard work on the table? We need these tools to start growing our garden from seeds and work in the garden. The Chromebook will be used so students will always have the ability to research questions that they experience throughout this journey. They will also use the Chromebook as a tool to turn our normal garden into a profitable garden. Every grade level (K-5) at our school will benefit from this opportunity. Please help us make this come true!
