Ms. O'Connor from Miami FL is requesting supplies through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need paper, pencils and pencil sharpeners, they can not afford to buy them. Pencils and paper are necessary for reading, writing, and social studies!!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My students are all living in poverty. They can not afford to bring basic school supplies to school. Everyday my students and I work together to defy the odds and shatter the stereotypes that society has placed on them. We are working relentlessly day in and day out.
My students are unique.
They are the epitome of the achievement gap in the U.S. Despite obstacles and setbacks, they are creative, hilarious, outgoing, opinionated, and hardworking. They face challenges that the average 5th grader does not face. Each student qualifies for free breakfast and lunch provided by the government. They do not let their hardships bring them down or break their spirit. They attend a public school that continuously receives a failing grade. A very small percentage of the students at the school are reading at grade level. They have had a lot of people give up on them in the past. We are working hard everyday to catch up and improve our reading and writing skills! My students love learning!
"You can do something extraordinary in one moment for one kid. And it can be simple and it can be profound and it can last a lifetime." -Teach for America corps member. The resources I have requested in this project are simple, paper, pencils, and pencil sharpeners. My students can not afford these simple items. These items are essential to successful learning! My school does not provide us with these supplies, and does not have a working copy machine. I have requested paper so that I can make copies on my own of what we are learning for each student. It is very difficult having students on many different reading levels. I need paper so that I can print stories and passages on various reading levels and meet the needs of all my learners!
By helping to fund this project, you are helping to end educational inequity.
My students deserve the supplies and opportunities that affluent students receive. Please help me put my students on the life path that will lead them to attending college. Entering middle school on reading level is essential for them to have a successful future.
