Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students represent a population of two schools that merged. They are so resilient and have adapted so well. Our school has many new teachers, aides, and parents. Our students represent all abilities from Gifted to those with special needs such as intense interventions, support in all academics, and some even have special needs at school due to home situations. It's always nice to see a familiar face and parents are invited and welcome to visit, help, and volunteer. When students see their parents on campus they shine! They love to see their parents helping in the classroom, on the playground, in the library, or anywhere at school.
Every student has special needs from learning difficulties, physical needs, academic needs, or needs with the day to day challenge of learning.
Often students are seen using nubs of pencils, crayons with flat edges, and markers that are drying out. Even though we provide new writing utensils as needed, there is always the need to give another as they break, lids are lost, and erasers are used.
My Project
Pencils, markers, and crayons..,oh my! Students always need these basic supplies in the classroom. Having the correct writing utensils to use for drawing, coloring, whiteboard instruction, or answering questions in a workbook or writing a composition is essential in the classroom.
Broken pencil leads, dried out whiteboard markers and crayons without a point mean new supplies are needed.
My students are provided the needed materials several times a year and now is that time again. New pencils are provided each month and crayons several times a year. New whiteboard markers and colored pencils are given on as needed basis. Many basic supplies are needed in classrooms including paper, glue sticks, and YES---pencils, markers, and crayons!
