Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Tigers who enter our intervention classroom each day are enthusiastic, eager, and excited to learn. Together we focus on building their language, phonics, reading, and writing skills so they can progress towards grade level proficiency. Every day we aim to provide students opportunities to learn through a multi-sensory approach.
Most of our Kinder students enter school with limited English language and have had no prior school experience.
Students are immediately exposed to a new language and vocabulary, letters, colors and numbers for the first time. Our sweet students come to school ready to face the day’s triumphs and challenges, despite their circumstance. They inspire me to be and do better every day.
Our school is Title I funded, with a population of 91% English Language Learners and 100% free and reduced-price lunch. Many of our families receive a Food for Kids backpack to sustain them through the weekend, and we also have a biweekly food pantry for our families.
My Project
There are so many amazing benefits to incorporating flexible seating into your classroom. Students have so much energy, and oftentimes, sitting in a traditional chair may not be the best learning environment for them. Our team works with students in small, flexible groups, where maintaining focus and attention to task is an essential part of their learning.
With the purchase of our new Kore Wobble Chairs, students will benefit from using excess energy while learning, have increased motivation and engagement, a better flow of oxygen to their brain, and improved core strength and posture.
All research points to an overall improvement in student performance and engagement, and honors the learning styles and needs of all learners in my classroom.
