Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In my classroom, we love to learn in many different ways. We use various manipulatives, centers, games and do a lot of projects. Each day we start the day off with breakfast in the classroom and every child is greeted at the door with a warm welcome and a warm meal.
One hundred percent of our school receives free lunch and breakfast due to the fact that they live in high poverty.
This affects every aspect of their lives but school should be a place where they are safe, fed, nurtured, and encouraged. I work my hardest to ensure this happens daily.
When my students come to school each morning, they are in a place where they can be kids and enjoy life. Our school is nestled in the Red Rocks in NM which gives a great backdrop for our learning. I have a group of 25 very energetic first graders who are ready to learn.
My Project
Scholastic News Magazines are WONDERFUL ways to access non-fiction, grade level, standards based text in the classroom. These magazines are used as introductions for research and writing projects in my classroom.
Another wonderful thing is that my students do not have access to reading materials at home and they can take these magazines home with them to share with their families.
My students LOVE when we do Scholastic News together on the carpet and are so willing to do five paragraph writing projects when they are introduced by these magazines.
Scholastic News Magazines make learning non-fiction materials fun for my students, when they have fun they learn so much more!
