I have a very diverse group of students who have faced many challenges in their short lives. In our area, financial hardship is real. Several of my students are being raised in single-parent households and some are being raised by their grandparents. I have had families living with other families to make ends meet. Life is just hard.
When these students come into my classroom for the first time, I love to present them with their own new supplies!
I want to give them the best start that I can to a year full of learning and hard work! What they do is hard work!
My Project
Our school is a Title I school. Because of our rural location, we are dealing with declining enrollment. Declining enrollment means declining budgets.
Just because we are a small rural school doesn't mean my students can do without basic school supplies like pencils, paper, erasers, dry erase markers and highlighters!
To see the looks on their faces when they first come into my classroom and see new supplies in their boxes is heartwarming. My students last year got so excited to have their own highlighter thanks to some amazing donors.
My students work hard on their printing and beginning cursive. The special lined paper makes practicing easier. The dry-erase sleeves will help us to save paper as we practice our handwriting and math facts.
