Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come to school each day ready to learn. They are a unique group. They are friendly, loving, and courageous. They come from various backgrounds. One hundred percent of the students eat free breakfast and lunch each day. The economic status of the area would qualify it for the highest poverty area. More than 75% of my students are immigrants from South America, Central America, Africa, and Europe. When I think about America, I see it in my classroom. We are the melting pot of America. One big community, living and learning together as one.

Each student believes they can achieve and works hard toward their own success.

This attitude makes it possible to meet our goals. While most students are below grade level, they work hard to master challenges. This project will help us meet our goals.

My Project

Using computers is essential for middle school students. The skills required in the 21st century are grounded in the ability of my students to access information on the web and create individual projects. My students will use this technology to write and edit stories expressing their own unique perspectives. My students will publish their pieces with pride and this enthusiasm can only be accomplished with technology. They will also use the Chromebooks to create class projects using Goggle slides. These slide shows open up a wonderful opportunity for the students to become facilitators of their own learning.

Knowing computers are available for publishing increases excitement in the class.

Excitement is only part of the importance of having technology. Giving those students who have difficulty expressing their thoughts on paper computers, such as the Chromebooks, opens up a world of possibility. I've seen this last year when I found myself struggling to get a few students to actually write, but when they had a computer their effort and work increased tremendously!

With your help we can make computers available in the class to all students. We all know that technology is important in our world. Having the opportunity to use laptops in the classroom opens up endless possibilities. Giving my students this opportunity is so important to them. I hope that you will be available to help us with this project.
