My Students

We are a small rural school with a lot of heart. Our small town school is high poverty, over 56%. 58% of my class is on free or reduced lunch. We also have a community food pantry in our school to help with families needs.

We are a family of learners helping each other succeed!

My 28 kindergarteners are full of energy and eager to learn. They love hands-on learning and projects. Despite some of the disadvantages many of the students face, they come to school ready to learn and succeed.

My Project

My students want to read! They need books on their level so they can gain confidence in their reading skills. When my students can successfully read books and take them home to show their families, their excitement and love of reading grows!

My students want to read about real life.

The non-fiction emergent readers will be a huge asset. Most of our emergent readers are fictional stories. Coming from a low income area students need exposure to real life stories to help them gain knowledge in science and social studies through reading.

We will use the cd players to listen to books to gain vocabulary and reading skills needed to be successful readers.
