Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The majority of my students are English Language Learners who have minimal support at home due to a language barrier. As a result of this, their English language role models are limited, and they require repetitious instruction in acquiring the Word Analysis content standards.
Since my my class is predominately composed of English Language Learners it is imperative that my students get the English Language instruction they deserve.
They are academically talented and need to be challenged to work in cooperative small groups during workshop time to practice their oral language skills. Most of them are at level three of English Language proficiency so this means they struggle with the most with oral language, academic vocabulary and concept development. However, with the odds against them they attend school eager and ready to tackle language like intelligent detectives looking for context, context clues!
My Project
The Word Analysis Lab will help my Classroom Buddies gain the word analysis and writing convention skills they need to rock the Word Analysis and Writing Conventions section of the Language Arts test! The giant magnetic punctuation marks will help students identify where to correctly place punctuation marks in a fun, interactive manner. The synonyms and antonyms listening centers will increase students awareness of word structure and it will reinforce how to find the meaning of unknown words. Since the concept of homonyms is so difficult for English Language Learners to grasp, the Grab and Match Quickies game will give students the extra motivation to learn them in a fun, engaging manner. In addition, the echo microphone will help increase their confidence, oral language, and presentation skills of all students!
The impact of the word Analysis Lab will be endless.
The students will be able to demonstrate a myriad of concepts and skills that will encourage inquiry, small group dialog, fun, and the love of learning for many years to come. They will gain oral language, presentation, and writing skills that will help them throughout their entire educational careers.
Thank you for reading my project.
