I teach in a Title I school where almost half of our population receives free and reduced lunch. Due to budget restraints the district needed to cut teaching positions and with the special needs population growing larger more responsibility has been placed on classroom teachers to address the needs of these struggling students. I am completely up for this challenge just lack the resources necessary to accomplish what I dream for all of my students and that is to LOVE reading.
My students walk into the classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day.
It breaks my heart when I see some of my students struggle with reading. My goal is to foster the love of reading in my classroom through goal setting and books that rich with information as well as an environment where the students feel comfortable and excited to read in. Please help me make our vision become reality.
My Project
The materials that we requested, will help us foster our love for reading. The variety of seating items that we are asking to purchase will add to the excitement of reading the novels since some of us need movement in order to stay focused when reading independently as well as in a group setting.
Reading the variety of novels such as The Boxcar Children will allow us to make connections between our lives and the characters in the book.
Through these books we will learn valuable life lessons, as well as complete STEM activities, character sketches, etc. to go with them. We will be able to participate in classroom discussions within our class as well as SKYPE with other classes that are reading the same novels. The possibilities are endless!
The book bins will be a way for us to keep all the books we are excited about reading organized as well as in good condition so that they can be used for many years to come!
