This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach in a low-income school district. My students come from many different backgrounds, but they all have one thing in common: They love to learn! My students come to class eager to learn and have a positive attitude. However, I am not always able to give them everything that they need to have an equal chance to succeed in life.
I teach math and reading.
I have different levels of learners in my math class, and I have a low-level reading group. I teach 100 students each day. There is so much I would love to give my students, but the funds aren't always there.
My Project
One of the biggest interruptions that I encounter during class is a student who is struggling following along. Most students are embarrassed to raise his or her hand and ask where we are and/or what page the class is on. I have classes of thirty students, so once I realize the student is lost, they have missed out on several problems.
With a document camera, I can project the math page we are on.
I can write in my workbook, and the students will know exactly where to take notes, as well as what page we are on. It may seem like a small wish, but it will tremendously help my students and me!
