Creative, imaginative, talented, and eager are just a few words to describe the characteristics found among the students in my fourth grade classroom. These students love exploring new topics, they bring their own connections to the conversation and they love to learn. My students learn through integrating the arts in all we do from music during math to colonial dances during our Revolutionary War unit and painting up our own perfect square masterpieces inspired by Piet Mondrian.
My students thrive on classroom collaboration and adding an element of flexible seating would only strengthen their conversation and tailor their learning style to their specific needs.
My Project
Flexible seating is a great way for students to have choice and ownership in their learning. As adults, we like to sit on the couch or in a comfy chair when we do work, so giving students options in their learning environment is important as well. Not every student wants to sit at a table, on the floor, a couch, or on a wiggle stool but they should have the option to choose.
When my students find a flexible seating option that works for them, their engagement level and focus is wildly improved.
I want to bring wiggle stools to our classroom flexible seating rotation for our students to have an outlet for their wiggles while focusing on their learning. Sturdy metal stools for small group instruction is key - I have had too many stools fall apart and take instructional time away from students trying to manage seating.
