My students need a moon shaped table to help make small group reading with the teacher easier and more manageable. The classroom would also benefit from having a chart stand to display ideas and concepts taught.
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences. My students are a very diverse group of kids who are currently in third grade. They love to use technology and most of them learn best when integrating hands-on activities.
Our school is a PreK-8 school that helps foster the learning of our multicultural students.
We are trying to prepare our students for the future, while instilling the love to learn.
My Project
There is a variety of materials listed in this project. The main item that is needed is a moon-shaped table. We currently have two rectangular tables put together to read and have a discussion on. Students are spaced out and some very distant from the teacher. There are students who lack confidence in their reading and therefore, don't read very loud. Put that idea with the teacher being at the other end of the table, it makes small group instruction difficult at times.
A chart tablet and stand would make both large and small group instruction more beneficial.
When working on writing, we would use this to brainstorm ideas. It is great for modeling material and not having to erase it so that we can use the dry erase board to work on other areas.
Lastly, I am asking for random material, such as ink pads , butterfly cycle experience and magnetic little people. The ink pads are used both by the teacher and by students. Students enjoy practicing their spelling words with letter stampers. However, children do not always put lids back on the ink pads and the ink dries out. In science, we talk about life cycles and for students to actually experience a live version of this would be more meaningful than just learning through pictures and books. The magnetic people will help me group students in my centers. I currently use a different grouping for math and reading and these will help me keep more organized.
