I am moving into a new school (my dream school!!!) and a new grade level (1st). My new students are the low level readers and mathematicians. My group is made of the students who only just made promotion from Kindergarten. So our goal this year is make the best steps to get them back into the stream with the rest of their grade level. This, in my opinion is going to be best accomplished by showing them that learning can be just as much fun and it is important.
I really want to offer my students a classroom that is full of opportunity and excitement.
To accomplish this I am going to offer them an open setting classroom with the opportunity to pull from many different areas to have a full and well-rounded learning experience. As most of my students are from low and very low income families, I also want to give them some place that makes them happy and gives them a desire to come to school everyday.
My students are needing a warm and inviting place to come everyday and learn to love learning. Currently my classroom is very bare, just tables and chairs, with bare tile floors. This carpet will give us a place to have Morning Meetings and group reading time. It will be a place my students will have to come to every morning and share their life experiences and the good things that are going on in their lives.
I have come to see that children do not really learn and absorb the way they need to by simply sitting in one chair all day and doing book work, they need the ability to move.
However, it is difficult for anyone to be moving around and do class work. This is why I am looking for the flexible seating. With this asset in our arsenal my students with be able to move to different places in our room and complete the work they need to They is something fun and magical about not having to "sit at my desk"
