My students need portable CD players and more titles in their listening library! We are also asking for Fire 7 tablets and cases to use during guided reading and small group sessions.
I have a SUPER group of 2nd Grade students this year. They are kind and helpful. They love school and are excited about learning. Our school is in a military town and more than half of the students have parents who are active duty.
We just completed our Mid Year Literacy benchmark testing and each student has made progress in at least one area.
Almost all of them have grown significantly in their ability to RETELL a story or recall what they just read.
We recently did a unit on Nonfiction Text Features. The students really enjoyed this study. They were able to apply many of the skills and terms they learned when they chose an animal to research and then compiled their notes to complete their Mid-Year Writing Assessment.
My Project
My students are very diverse when it comes to their reading levels but all of them LOVE to read! I want to beef up my classroom library and provide them with the opportunity to listen to stories anywhere in the classroom. Currently when participating in literacy center time you will find 4 - 5 students crowded around 1 cd player. This can be distracting and uncomfortable for the both the listeners and other students in the classroom.
My students need a write and wipe magnetic easel, lapboards and erasable markers for our guided math program.
These portable cd players will allow them to read at their own pace. I have also chosen some new titles for our listening library including several chapter books on cd. And finally, I am requesting 2 additional tablets to add to the 6 we were gifted with last Fall and some inexpensive but sturdy cases to protect them when being used by little hands.
