Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Can you imagine being lost in the dark? You can hear directions of how to get to your destination, but maybe you don't even speak enough English to understand them. Wouldn't it be so much easier if you could just look at a map?
My class comprises 20 first grade students in a small public school in California.
We are part of a one school school district and have limited resources. My students have inquisitive, active young minds and are eager to please and learn. For many of them, very little English is spoken in their home.
My Project
I am requesting an LCD projector. This will enable me to project the "visual learning bridge" that comes with our math program for all to see. These curriculum based video clips provide visual support of the new math concept being taught for the day. The visual bridge is a core part of the program. Especially for young learners the ability to watch and interactively engage in what is being taught ("show me") is a more effective way of teaching than just listening ("tell me").
For the students who are overwhelmed by the amount of explaining that the teacher does, the ability to "watch" the learning bridge can really close the learning gap.
For some students, it might be the only part of the daily instruction that they are excited about and feel they can totally engage in.
