My Students

My students come from a wide variety of backgrounds. Teaching in a military community, we have so much diversity. One thing my students struggle with in the Foreign Language classroom is speaking tasks, even though I have a good handful of native and heritage speakers. I would like to be able to practice speaking tasks more frequently so that my students become more comfortable with their emerging abilities. I would be happy to offer my students the ability to listen and speak in a low-anxiety environment.

My Project

With the microphone headphones, we can listen and watch authentic, Spanish videos and practice recording our own voices in Spanish to help with both presentational and interpersonal speaking tasks. Students often get shy when asked to speak in the target language, so practicing with voice recording first is a fun way to work on pronunciation without the stress and anxiety of others listening. I would love to be able to offer weekly “listening lab” opportunities in Spanish 2 as well as intricate listening practice for my Spanish 4 AP students as they prepare for the challenging exam. With planned, regular practice, I know my students would become more and more comfortable with their speaking tasks in Spanish!
