Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

I am a first year Kindergarten teacher in a brand new school in Chicago's West Englewood neighborhood. I want to capture my students' energetic imaginations by taking them to a children's theater production of Cinderella. This experience would be the culminating activity for an interdisciplinary unit about Cinderella stories from around the world. Studying Cinderella will not only engage my students in a multicultural dialogue; it will also introduce them to the world of theater, a place where most of them have no previous experience. As the year draws to a close, I think it is very important for my children to interact with students from the other two Kindergarten classes at our school. This unit and field trip will be a great way for all of the Kindergartners to get to know their future classmates and I look forward to sharing the experience with the other classes. In advance, thank you for helping make Cinderella come to life!
