Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
There are many great things going on at our school. Our school is changing the distinguished practice by becoming a STEAM school. Sixth-grade students will be participating in band class and will be able to study one instrument for the school year.
As a teacher of students who come from situations that are beyond their control, I push them to persevere and be the best that they can be despite circumstances.
Some of my students are either homeless or live in motels or a crowded room. Some of my students are responsible for caring for their younger siblings as their parents work long hours. Regardless of the situation, they come to school and learn. Living close to a popular tourist attraction, many of my students and their families are unable to go because they can’t afford it. Our school is a Title I school where the majority of the students receive free or reduced-price lunch.
My Project
For this project, I am asking for a variety of books to #FillEveryShelf in our classroom. I would like to encourage reading and what better way to do that by updating and providing books. This year, my students are participating in the 36 Book Challenge. Why 36 books? I chose 36 books because that is how many lines are on the chart. Of course, I always like to encourage my students to read more.
My students enjoy reading and I would like to provide a variety of books to encourage them to read more and read often.
By having more books, my students will have more options. The books that I have selected are ones that I have seen students pick most often at the library and were more requested from the bookmobile. Please help us fill our shelves.
