This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a first grade ICT special education teacher at Jamaica Children's School in South Jamaica Queens. Like the rest of the world, we are teaching and learning from home due to COVID-19.
Though many of my students have to face social, emotional and academic struggles they are extremely resilient.
With the looming budget cuts to programs in education, many students will not have access to educational programs and resources this summer. This lack of resources will place many students at a further disadvantage.
There are already many obstacles on their path to success, a lack of resources should not be one of them.
My Project
I am seeking to provide the first grade students at my school with summer bridge workbooks and school supplies. These books are designed to help children bridge the summer learning gap between first and second grade, it includes 12 weeks of skill builders, fitness activities, home science experiments, flash cards and more!
In light of the budget cuts from COVID- 19, our students are facing a summer without summer school and other academic enrichment programs they depend on.
These materials will keep our kids learning all summer long. This teacher-recommended book is filled with engaging learning activities that keep kids geared up for second grade—while having fun!
