My students work hard and try their best to make themselves and their school better. My students are eager to learn and motivated to achieve anything that will better them in the future workplace. My students also provide for our community by making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the homeless. We are a part of the Academy of Information Technology (STEM) on our campus and are also members of FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America).
We want to do more for the homeless in our community.
My school has approximately 1900 students from all walks of life, but about 70% of them come from low-income families and neighborhoods. Our PB&J project teaches our students to give back to those that are less fortunate than them.
My Project
We need peanut butter, jelly, and bags to make our sandwiches and the juices are to give to the student volunteers for helping out after school. Our Feed the Homeless project is ongoing all year. Every two weeks, we meet after school to make PB&J sandwiches. It usually takes us about two hours to make sandwiches out of 15 loaves of bread. The bread is purchased through our FBLA club. This past year we have survived on donations of peanut butter and jelly.
We want to make even more sandwiches for the homeless this year.
Through this project, the students are learning to give back to the less fortunate in their community. For many of our students, this is their first experience in donating their time.
