Help Us Explore and Apply Ideas of Patterns and Symmetry!
My students need crayons, scissors, and other basic supplies to complete a variety of lessons in our class, as well as a math project I would love to complete with them!
Have you ever imagined what it would feel like to come to school without school supplies? My students experience this daily. They come to school without pencils, art supplies, and sometimes a book bag.
The school we attend is inner city in Pennsylvania.
The children are a diverse cross section of many different cultures, ethnic groups and languages. More than half are African American, 34% are Caucasian, 14% are Hispanic, and 4% are of other ethnic groups. The children are from 17 different countries, who speak 14 different languages. The students speak Bosnian, Vietnamese, Spanish, Arabic, Albanian, Russian, Ukrainian, Sudanese, Turkish, Somalian, Swahili, Khron, Romanian, and Maay-Maay. The studemts are hard workers who want to succeed in school.
My Project
These resources will change the lives of my students for the better. They will be able to participate in more hands on activities in all the subjects. These resources will also help with time management during the school day. Due to not having most of these supplies or very few of some of them, it takes us double and sometimes triple time to complete a project. We have to share the few scissors we have and the few packs of broken crayons. These resources would be enough for all the students to work on a project or activity at the same time. The resources we are requesting are crayons, markers, colored pencils, expo markers, glue, scissors, notebook paper, and a pencil sharpener.

Completing this project would give the students hands on experience in applying ideas of pattern, symmetry, rotation, and reflection in context of quilts. Lastly, these supplies will carry over into other various projects throughout the school year and many more school years to come!
