Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The first graders in my classroom are curious, energetic, and excited about learning! They are a very eclectic group in terms of ability levels, backgrounds, and learning needs; however, we have really come together as a classroom community this year. In order to foster that sense of community, the first graders frequently work in small groups or partners to support each others' learning.

My first graders love hands-on experiences and their learning thrives in centers that promote teamwork, critical thinking, and content exploration.

Throughout the year, I have watched my students grow as independent learners!

My Project

One of my favorite aspects of teaching first grade is watching my students build an appreciation and love for reading that leads to reading independence! Their love for reading is fostered each day in our classroom through read-alouds, reader's workshop, and independent reading time.

My first graders look forward to browsing for new books in our classroom library, as many of them do not have many, if any, books at home.

Through this project, I hope to increase the quantity, quality, and variety of children's books I have in my classroom library.
