Help me give my students continued access to IXL Math, an online learning platform that helps students master content and challenge themselves beyond their grade level.
There is never a dull moment in my classroom with the bright, funny, creative individuals I have the pleasure of teaching. My students are in a self-contained middle school special education classroom for students with a variety of disabilities that make it difficult for them to access their grade level academics. Each child has an individual education plan to help them make progress on goals in academics, social skills, communication, and functional life skills. About 1/3 of my students speak English as a second language and every student works significantly below their grade level in all academic areas.
My students love to come to school and it is my joy to get to be their teacher.
They are very hard workers and try their best to grow and learn in every subject. They are full of curiosity, energy and incredible potential. We try to always focus on the positive and celebrate every success that our students achieve. Every day we do our best to make sure that our students have the necessary tools they need to succeed, but it's not easy when you have a small classroom budget per year in a high-poverty school.
My Project
The use of textbooks, paper and pencil alone are not effective ways to ensure student engagement in the classroom. The use of digital tools continues to be a great way to provide students with differentiated practice and is an excellent way to assess student work.
My students have used IXL math and love using it to help gain skills to assist them in moving from practice to mastery.
Students are able to work outside of their current grade level, which provides opportunities for students working below, on, and above grade level standards and concepts. Unfortunately, due to budget constraints, my school district is unable to provide us with IXL anymore.
Providing students with additional learning tools not only provides students with opportunities to achieve, but ensures students have access to technology that better prepares them for their future.
