Help Us Earn a Flip Camera To Record Field Trip Memories!
My students need a way to preserve their field trip memories. Having a Flip Camera would provide the means to create a movie summarizing our chorus field trips.
What would it be like for you to experience something great but have no way to preserve the memories of the experience? While many students have cell phones and cameras today, many do not have a way to record videos.
Our public high school is in a pretty rural setting in Pennsylvania.
Many of our students rarely have the opportunity to visit the closest city, let alone other states. In addition, a lot of them do not have the means to just pay for a field trip, let alone purchase cameras to preserve the memories they make on those trips. They work extremely hard to earn the money needed through fund-raisers. Students in the 9 - 12 grade chorus are planning a trip to Nashville in the spring of 2014 and having this item would be a great addition to wrap up the school year in the form of a gift to each participating student.
My Project
If I were to have a Flip Camera, I could record videos of all aspects of our field trip, from the educational choral clinics that we participate in, to the sight seeing of famous landmarks in the city in which we visit. I have had numerous students over the years comment on the field trips we participate in by say things like "I always dreamed about visiting NYC! I can't believe I'm actually here!" or "Performing here has been an awesome experience!". I am extremely grateful that I can provide these wonderful experiences for my students but I'd love to take it a step further and create movies for them to keep for years to come.
While not having a Flip Camera or other device to record videos and make movies does not mean that field trips aren't possible, this would be a spectacular way for the students to cherish their memories as well as relive the musical education they received while participating in the choral clinics and performances that they were a part of.
