Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are future art teachers, engineers, architects, and so much more. These are the dreams that have been communicated to me and dreams that are fostered through the Arts. With many students who come from low-income households, my classroom is usually the only place these students can receive an education that supports their dreams.
I love my students' passion for school and their devotion inspires me every day.
When I forget why I am a teacher on those rough days that all teachers have, they remind me through the things I see them create. When I see a child pour their soul into their art, when I see a student erasing until they get something just right, or when I see a student who doesn't like art but tries anyway, those are the moments that tell me how much these children deserve this. They show these artworks off with pride. They have a spark in their eyes and a love for learning and creating that is just unparalleled.
My Project
My students love, love, love to learn how to draw better! One of their favorite things to do if they finish their assignments early, is to borrow a How to Draw book from my class library. We have a good variety now thanks to a generous donation last year, but there are still some things my students are yearning to know more about that just don't fit in our curriculum, such as Digital Art and Architecture.
What better way to get students excited about art than to let them draw what they are most interested in?
This is why I am requesting books for my classroom that MY students specifically said they would be interested in. These books will help my students learn to draw better, and also keep them practicing during down time in the classroom. With books on topics such as architecture, digital art, fashion design, and how to get started in the manga (Japanese comic) industry added to our classroom library, we would have new techniques, styles, and subjects to learn to draw and valuable information for students who want future careers in art! Please help us reach our goal!
