This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember what it was like the first time you read a book that you couldn't put down? My students have not yet discovered books that capture their imaginations, so let's help them!

Most of my 5th grade students struggle with fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary aquisition.

They are students who have little or no access to good reading materials outside of school. Most of them live in poverty and many are predominantly English language learners.

My Project

Tuck Everlasting is a trade book that will be used in conjunction with our reading program. This text will allow my students to effectively engage in literature discussion groups. During these sessions, students will collaboratively discuss to further explore the text in ways that can foster higher-level thinking and the use of comprehension strategies, vocabulary acquisition, and speaking and listening skills. These are all essential for meeting the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts.

Literature circles benefit students who lack confidence in their reading skills as they allow them to have peer support to comprehend the material read.

It is like a book club, where people discuss books they have read, analyze them, and give their personal opinions based on their experiences. Donating to this project will jumpstart our book club and English language learners will have the opportunity to interact with English proficient students as they model appropriate language skills.
