Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
It's great to go outside and play in the sand, play kickball and practice with a hula hoop! But our balls have some holes, our hula hoop is broken, and our sand toys have taken a beating. Please help our students have a more active and enjoyable recess.
I teach an inclusive Pre-K classroom with many of my students near or below the poverty line.
All of my students qualify for free or reduced lunch, and more than half are English language learners. We are a wellness school, so my AM students get a free breakfast and PM students get free lunch everyday. They also get free fruit and vegetable snacks twice a week. Healthy exercise along with healthy food will help them grow and develop. If they have toys they can use outside, it well help promote active play during their outside time, which will complement their learning about healthy eating at school.
My Project
We'll be able to go outside and kick balls that go really far (because they can be pumped up since they don't have holes)! The kids can play games with hula hoops since our last hula hoop broke in half. We'll finally have a set of durable sand toys, which means they won't break since we play in rocky hard sand that's hard on flimsy plastic. My students love to develop their pretend play skills by making cakes and sand castles. This would be a gift that can last for other pre-k classes to come.
Please donate to our class and help us purchase new sand toys, balls, and hula hoops.
It will help my pre-k students jump, run, and play through 30 minutes of outside time that can be educational, full of large motor development, and not to mention a lot of fun!
