Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are joyful, honest, and very funny! They change me for the better every day. I am in the moment, mindful, and a partner in learning each day. They are excited to learn and want to do their best for themselves and families. They are generous and often want to take home any prizes or treats to share with siblings. Many of my students families have traveled to America for a better education for their children to reach their dreams! Their journey begins now. Our school is a neighborhood school where families help one another.

Many students have worries that small shoulders should not have to carry.

I teach at a Title I 100% free lunch program. My diverse students are from all over the world, for example, Cambodia, Korea, Ethiopia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Vietnam, and Laos. Many parents have traveled to America for a better education for their children, so I feel a tremendous commitment to helping them achieve their dreams.

My Project

My students need a variety of books to build their imaginations, improve their communication skills, and love reading! I have shopped yard sales and saved my own children's books, but my library is full of old tattered books that are not very inviting or exciting to read. I love the smell of new books and would be so excited for my students to experience that feeling for themselves.

More book variety will grow my students entire world!

My project includes fiction and nonfiction books. They will be exposed to different types of characters and read a wide range of writing!
