Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We strive to use every subject in the art class which helps make all subjects meaningful for the students and help them to get more engaged in their own learning.
I currently teach Art and Digital Media classes to several wonderful students at a Continuation High School.
While we have a staff that is committed to providing top notch education to our students, unfortunately we are (like many other schools) struggling to provide them the tools and resources needed to be successful. Everyone thinks of Napa as being flooded with money, but the truth is it isn't. I strive to provide my students with new and interesting projects to learn. Whether in my art class or my digital media class art and design is a huge element in my classroom. My students deserve the best just like other funded schools.
My Project
With the Cricut Maker, students will be exploring the world of scientist and historians. Why the scientist and historians are famous and quotes from them that emphasize the core values of our school; Safety, Respect and Responsibility.
Key skills needed in today's workplace: problem solving, analytical thinking, and the ability to work independently.
What do they all have in common? They're all related to STEM which develops a set of thinking, reasoning, teamwork, investigative, and creative skills that students can use in all areas of their lives. Students are going to problem solve through the use technology and design to come with design wood burned signs that promote common core values of respect, safety and responsibility throughout the school.
We will be using the Cricut to cut wood and vinyl and make plaques and signs to put around the school as an inspiration and reminder of our school values. The heat press will be used to press the vinyl and many different fabrics.
