Imagine a classroom filled with young people hungry to learn about the world around them. Exploratory Global Studies, Teens Around the World, and French students (more than 180 of them!) want to dive into the lives of their global peers, learning about their daily lives, their struggles, and their dreams for the future. Great resources on the internet are waiting for them, but they currently do not have adequate access to technology. Not all students have smartphones, and those who do cannot always access the sites we use.
My Project
My classroom needs more chrome books! Eight are not enough for thirty-five students to share. We want to explore the world around us by researching how kids live outside the United States, through websites such as Duolingo, Kidsaroundtheworld, Popclockprojection, NationalGeographicKids, Peace Corps World Wise Schools, GirlRising, FairTrade, sheppardsoftware.com, and dozens more.
We want to learn about their culture, language, daily lives, music, sports, family life, holiday traditions, food, and gender roles.
We need better access to the internet in order to do this! With only 8 computers, students have to work in large groups, sharing one device. We could use our time much more productively with more chrome books to share!
