This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Hands-On, Minds-On is the best way to learn science, but in order for that to happen I need some help getting my students some supplies. We are requesting the materials necessary to build a weight bearing addition (boomilever) to a balsa wood bridge and a kit to test fingerprints.
My students are amazing!
We are one of the lower income schools in our district so we need some extra financial support to compete with the other schools in our district. The students on the Science Olympiad team are willing do the work, but can get discouraged when we do not have the proper supplies to fully complete the assigned task. We have done very well for the little amount of supplies we have. I can only imagine what these kids will accomplish with all the necessary equipment.
My Project
In the past two years we have been very competitive placing third and forth in most events that we competed. This year it is our Science Olympiad Team goal to compete in every event and go to the state competition. The students came up with the idea to practice on Saturdays to help us reach our goal.
It is important for our project to receive funding so my students do not lose interest in science and engineering.
In a school where sports teams get the most attention I want my students to be inspired to achieve academically.
