Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
At the end of this school year, I want my students to be full of knowledge and have a continued thirst for more! I want them to feel that education is valuable and empowering! Hands on learning creates a yearning for more learning!
My students are an amazing group of children.
I am blessed to work in a school that has teachers that go above and beyond for their students. The majority of the students come from high poverty. Their low socioeconomic statuses do not deter their love for learning. These students are active, they are talented, and they do not always have access to technology and necessary materials.
My Project
I am asking for some of the 2018-2019 Battle of the Books titles so that my students will have access to the books they will need to read in order to compete in next year's Battle of the Books Competition. This will be our school's second year competing in the competition and getting our hands on these books will help our team have a great start. Students will read 20 or more of the 30 book titles and then will compete against other schools in their knowledge of the books at the Battle of the books competition.
This is a great way to bring the excitement of reading to students.
These book titles are from a wide range of reading levels as well as genres which is a great way to expose students to books they might not necessarily pick up on their own. I have seen first-hand how this competition helps students gain a love for reading and can't wait to see the excitement from next years team.
