Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a speech-language pathologist at several middle schools working with students who present multiple levels of communication difficulties.
I work with speech and language students who have various levels of communication difficulties, including students with simple articulation difficulties, language delays, voice disorders, social language struggles and fluency issues. However, most of my students have autism or an intellectual disability causing them to communicate in a different manner than most students.
I enjoy working with all of my students and look forward to going to work each day.
My Project
The iPad is a very resourceful tool to utilize in speech and language therapy. It can be used for all types of communication disorders including receptive and expressive language delays, articulation delays, apraxia, fluency disorders, voice disorders, social language difficulties and for students who have limited verbal abilities.
The iPad can be used for multiple communication goals, including goals addressing vocabulary, grammar, comprehension, inferencing, figurative language, articulation, fluency, augmentative communication, and many more.
However, my students with autism and low cognitive skills are the ones I anticipate using this iPad with the most. There are many iPad applications which will help these students learn to communicate more effectively in the school setting.
I believe that an iPad will provide new avenues for my students to achieve success with their communication skills.
