My Students

All of my students in grades K-6 enjoy coming to see me daily for physical education classes. They are enthusiastic and willing to try new games and activities. They work well with each other during partner or team activities. They have very good sportsmanship. Our students are constantly setting individual goals and working hard to reach them.

Team sports work well for most of my students.

However, some students would benefit from more individual based activities like rock wall climbing. This activity would change the focus from team accomplishments to individual accomplishments which will help build self-esteem.

My Project

I want to add the Traverse Rock Wall to our current physical education classes. Students will have the opportunity to work on their cardio while building endurance. They will gain an improvement in memory and cognitive skills. Climbing will improve their working memory because it requires focus to find the right body position and balance.

The rock wall will build confidence while teaching goal setting habits.

This individual sport will offer personalized goal setting for my students. They will learn to measure their own personal accomplishments. In addition, they will learn risk management in a safe, supervised environment. They will learn to accept and give help to their classmates.
