My students need 4 collections of themed multicultural books to create a classroom library full of challenging, culturally relevant books, to help build their literacy skills and encourage them to love reading!
This project expired on October 23, 2011.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
Can you imagine what it would be like to grow up in poverty, with limited access to quality books that could teach you more about the world around you and spark your imagination?
This is only a sampling of countless challenges faced by the second graders I will be teaching this year at a school in inner-city Boston.
My kids come from some of the toughest neighborhoods in the city and they come from non-English-speaking homes where there is little money to spare.
I am dreaming of providing for my students a classroom library full of high-interest, challenging, and culturally relevant texts that will make them laugh, learn, think critically, and better understand the world around them. My big-picture goal is to help inspire in my students a passion for reading and a thirst for knowledge. If this project is funded, my students (and all my future students) will have access to over 60 brand new books! I have hand-picked a selection that will most appeal to my kids.
This is a critical age for my kids-- they are so young and are so vulnerable to the hardships that surround them.
Help me make my classroom a place full of love and wonder, so we can build a solid foundation together for future success both inside and outside the classroom. No donation is too small-- we need all the help we can get. Thank you so much.
