Help me give my students basic hygiene items, wardrobe standards (t-shirts, pants, socks), school supplies, and some basic household supplies (blankets, paper goods).
This past fall our school started a new initiative that brought awareness to meeting the social emotional needs of students in our school. This opportunity to learn, grow and care as a community has inspired our students and staff to do more to help students with basic needs.
Our Junior High School is looking to create a Care Closet for our student population.
This will be a FREE resource provided for our students with items they may not be able to afford or purchase on their own. While this would be offered to all students, the intent is to share these items and resources with students and families that truly cannot purchase them on their own.
In order to fund and stock this Care Closet, we need your help!
My Project
The Care Closet will provide a way for our student body to get the basic needs for daily living in a confidential and dignified way. This includes things like basic hygiene items (deodorant, shampoo, soap, toothbrushes and toothpaste), wardrobe standards (socks, leggings, gloves, winter hats), school supplies (backpacks, binders), and some basic household supplies (blankets, paper goods, laundry soap).
Students who do not have their basic needs met, have difficulty focusing on learning.
After surveying our student body, we learned that there exists a very real and unmet need in our school community to provide a way to get our kids the stuff they need so that they can succeed.
Our Care Closet will be an anonymous way of getting these needs met within our school. There are plans to create a QR code that can be used to place an "order" with a student ID # for anonymity. Only the adult sponsors (myself and the amazing Care team) of the Care Closet will have direct access to these students.
