Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is a low income/high poverty area where 100% of the students receive free meals. My students have many challenges they have to face on a daily basis. Throughout these challenges, I expect my students to be role models to the school. As 5th graders, they take ownership of their learning and are able to persevere through tough challenges.
My students are deserving of a fun and encouraging atmosphere where they can be collaborative, creating, and problem solvers.
As a school site we strive to build a welcoming and a positive community, which translates to a supportive bunch of students in the classroom. By this project being funded, it gives children the opportunity to learn more about what helps them be successful and provide them with an experience that they never would have had.
My Project
These Break Out kits will allow me to take our content and add a fun twist to it. In order to "break out" my students will need to work together, problem solve, think creatively, and persevere through the challenges.
These Break Out kits will make a difference in my students learning by giving them the opportunity to practice 21st century skills in a fun, challenging, and engaging way.
These kits could also serve as monthly team builders to help with community building in the classroom. Another way I intend on using them is with our board game club. Giving them the option to try to break out while learning would be a steal!
